SCORM stands for Shareable Content Object Reference Model. It allows you to build an e-learning course in an authoring tool, export it to SCORM, and then load it into various LMS platforms. In other words: SCORM is a standard that enables you to use your learning content across various LMS platforms.

SCORM has the advantage of easily being able to play on different LMS platforms. However, it also has some disadvantages. For instance, SCORM modules are often not mobile-friendly, user tracking is limited in a SCORM module, and you need to upload a new version for every update.

How do I add a SCORM?

You can add SCORM as a learning activity (e-learning), or as a learning format within an e-learning.

SCORM as a learning activity

  • Go to ‘Courses’ via the menu bar.

  • Click on ‘Add’.

  • Choose the learning activity ‘E-learning’ and click on ‘SCORM’.

  • Add the general information. Fill in the title, study time, theme(s), and optionally a description. Then, click on 'Create new learning activity’.

    • Title. Give the e-learning a title, so you can easily find it in the library.

    • Author.

    • Study time. Here, you can provide an indication of the study time.

    • Themes. Add at least one theme.

    • Description. Here, you can add additional information about the learning activity. For example, the main objective of it.

    • Skills. Here, add at least one skill and a maximum of five skills.

  • Add the file. Drag the file into the field, or choose a file from your computer via 'Choose a file.' A SCORM file is always a zip file.

SCORM as a learning format in an E-learning

Make sure you are in the right spot within the e-learning where you want to add the SCORM.

  • Choose the learning format 'SCORM' at the bottom of the screen.

  • Add a title and optionally a description. Based on the title, the SCORM will be saved in the Warehouse. You can hide the title from users by clicking on the eye icon next to it.

  • Add the file. Drag the file into the field, or choose a file from your computer via 'Choose a file.' A SCORM file is always a zip file.

💡 Tip: Learning objectives and tags

You can add learning objectives and tags to learning formats. Learning objectives are useful, for example, to create exams based on learning objectives. Using tags helps you to easily find content in the Warehouse. As you start typing, suggestions will immediately appear for learning objectives and tags you have used before.

Which formats can I add?

The following SCORM formats are supported:

  • SCORM 2004

  • SCORM 1.1

  • SCORM 1.2
